I originally bought the Niwa Lunokhod Max Stephan’s Quintet Case because I thought it looked amazing.

I didn’t expect it to completely change the way I think about watches.

Like many people, I was first attracted by its Nixie-inspired design. But once I started learning how it actually works, I realized that this watch is much more than a beautiful object. It led me into a fascinating journey through plasma displays, luminescent materials, thin-film optics, and the engineering behind every single detail.

Even the case tells a story.

The “Stephan’s Quintet” titanium finish isn’t simply painted. Its beautiful blue, violet and golden tones come from an extremely thin layer of titanium oxide created by heat treatment. The colors are produced by light interference, not pigments. As a chemical engineer, discovering details like this made me appreciate the watch on an entirely different level.

Most watches answer one simple question:

“What time is it?”

The NIWA asks another one first:

“How should time be experienced?”

Reading the time is no longer automatic. Every glance becomes intentional. That tiny pause has become one of my favorite parts of wearing it because, for a brief moment, it brings me back to the present.

In a world where my phone tells the time more accurately than any watch ever could, I realized I don’t wear watches because I need them.

I wear them because they make me curious.

Every person who has seen this watch asks exactly the same question:

“How does it work?”

And that question inevitably leads to conversations about science, industrial design, materials engineering, independent watchmaking, and human creativity. Very few objects can naturally connect all those worlds.

The finishing is outstanding, the quality exceeded my expectations, and despite its futuristic appearance, it is remarkably comfortable to wear.

The watch itself arrived exactly what it is and it looks even better handling it in person. However, I ordered a black strap and silver steel band. When it arrived, I received a blue strap and silver steel band with missing spring pin. Overall, I am satisfied with the product but little disappointed they messed my cosmetic selection order.

Beautiful watch, set up seemed daunting at first but was very simple. It feels comfortable, I’ve seen videos of people saying that “it isn’t a daily watch” because of their difficulty reading the time. I did not have an issue reading the time, if you know what Roman Numerals are you won’t have an issue. I will make this a daily watch.

At first I would like to thanks for the customer-friendly approach and flexibility. Its good to know there is still avaiable nowdays.
Few minutes later, after payed the for the "simple" Lunokhod reailezed a new release "max version" coming soon.
I wrote a mail, like to upgrade to the Max if its possible.
Answer was fast and pozitive!
Had to pay extra for the upgrade and it was simlpy solved!
I have nikkel allergy, i cant wear metal strap.
They were very understanding, so let me choose another leather strap.
The watch box provides excellent protection for the components.
The whatch build quality is superb!
For the first couple of time It makes you smile when you for get to decode the time, because of just watching the lights.

I am very much impressed. My expectations we're high and yet the watch surpassed them all. The looks of the watch are amazing and they are quite easy to learn to read. Overall I am happy with them and they will be my daily watch from now on.
